Maintaining a sterile testing environment
In the world of precision XRF analysis, “cleanliness is next to accuracy.” The testing surface of your WiserMachine—where the jewelry or bullion sits—is a critical interface. Over time, this surface can accumulate residue from acid testing, skin oils, and microscopic metal dust. If left uncleaned, this “cross-contamination” can lead to false readings, especially when switching between low-karat scrap and high-purity bullion. However, using the wrong cleaning agent can permanently damage the sensor or void your manufacturer’s warranty.
Our 2026 maintenance audit showed that 15% of service calls were related to “corroded windows” or “damaged sensors” caused by the use of abrasive cleaners or unauthorized solvents. To maintain your 99.9% precision, you must use only approved methods for cleaning. For more on maintenance, consult our WMK600 care guide.
Approved cleaning solvents and methods
Follow these guidelines to keep your testing surfaces in factory condition. Never spray liquid directly onto the analyzer; always apply it to a cloth first.
| Solvent / Tool | Approval Status | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) | Approved | Removing oils and residues |
| Lint-Free Microfiber Cloth | Approved | Standard wiping and buffing |
| Compressed Air (Canned) | Approved | Removing dust from the window area |
| Acetone / Strong Acids | Strictly Forbidden | Damages plastics and seals (Voids Warranty) |
| Abrasive Pads / Steel Wool | Strictly Forbidden | Scratches the window (Voids Warranty) |
Cleaning procedure to avoid warranty void
A quick 30-second cleaning routine after every 10 tests will ensure your results remain consistent. Use the following steps to protect your XRF karat range accuracy.
- Dust Removal: Use canned air to blow away any loose particles from the sample plate and the detector window.
- IPA Wipe: Lightly dampen a microfiber cloth with 99% IPA. Do NOT use water-based soaps.
- Gently Wipe: Wipe the sample plate in a circular motion. Avoid pressing down on the detector window itself.
- Evaporate: Allow 10 seconds for the IPA to fully evaporate before placing the next sample.
By using only approved solvents, you protect the high-resolution SDD detector and ensure that your warranty remains intact. A clean machine is a reliable machine. For a full list of approved maintenance supplies, visit our product accessories page.
